Book 33 of 52: Roses

Love Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry, Except With Roses

Roses is a novel that spans over 75 years and three generations, from the early 1900’s to present day. Some people have compared it to a modern day "Gone With The Wind" as it touches on many social issues of the various times and also has great character development. However, others haven't been quite as kind and compared it more to the TV series Dallas or Dynasty. Whatever the comparison, I enjoyed this book!

The Tolivers, the Warwicks, and the DuMonts are the three families whose lives are intertwined in a small Texas town. The saga starts off with Mary Toliver DuMont's story and her love for Percy Warwick. The tale of the star-crossed lovers is sure to interest any romantic as Mary and Percy's love-story unfolds in its captivating and heart-wrenching way. I don’t want to give away much more.

The novel is 600 pages long and despite the fact that I’m madly trying to get to a new book every week, I was sorry to see it come to an end. I love strong female characters, and Mary was no push over!

If you’re a fast reader and like “epic”, multi-generational stories that take place in the South, this is probably the one for you.
